tips on how to improve your speed and endurance for this upcoming Edge to Edge
marathon check out our tips!
 BEGINNER TIPS
1. Establish
your goals (i.e. relay team member, 1/2 marathon or full marathon distance). It
is only now that you can formulate a plan to get from a-z successfully!
2. Build up your mileage gradually, to avoid overtraining and injury. Check out
running sites for the best advice on how to establish an effective program with
GRADUAL mileage increases (i.e. 10%/week). 3. Mix up your training runs
so you incorporate climbing and descending. Longer slower paced runs can be complimented
with hill repeat workouts and speed work.
4. Invest in a quality pair
of running shoes that fit properly (visit a running specific store for the best
advice and information... those who run know best!). 5. Join a local running
group if you find those long runs lonely and the gloomy weather makes getting
out the door difficult. Always remember, once you take that first step outside
you will always be glad you did! 6. Establish routes that are enjoyable
and scenic. Try to avoid traffic and congested areas. 7. A heart rate
monitor can take the guessing out of your training and help you establish your
proper training zones. This tool isn't necessary but can be helpful.
8.
Find a running partner or join a running group in your area.
9. Use the
10 minute rule when you aren't sure if it is cabin fever or a real fever! If you
feel worse after 10 minutes, turn around and go home... get better! 10.
Record your training and mileage with notes on how you are feeling etc. This will
promote confidence as you look back at all the hard work you have put in!
Have fun and reward yourself for all your hard
work!
